Bhuban Majhi to release on Friday

The scenic film, which is scheduled to release across 15 theatres nationwide, has created a buzz among the audience, especially after releasing the serene teaser

The Parambrata Chatterjee and Aparna Ghosh starrer Bhuban Majhi, a Liberation War drama, is all set to release on Friday. The scenic film, which is scheduled to release across 15 theatres nationwide, has created a buzz among the audience, especially after releasing the serene teaser and a rebelliously romantic trailer that seems to promise an engaging story with some brilliant camera work.
The government-funded film has been helmed by director Fakhrul Areefen Khan, while Kolkata’s Parambrata Chatterjee plays the role of a spiritual singer Nahir, who is inspired by a young lady named Farida, played by Aparna Ghosh, to join the struggle of 1971 Liberation War. Mamunur Rashid, Shushama Sarker, Naushaba, Majnun Mijan, and singer Syed Waqeel Ahad are also among the cast of the film and have their fair share in the tale.
Bhuban Majhi subsumes a number of historical incidents such as the 1970s general election, the horrific night of March 25 and the EPR rebellion in 1971 in its storyline. The Dohar famed music director Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee composed the songs of the film.
Fakhrul Areefen Khan, the director said that the film is based on true events and the characters’ names have not been altered.
“No particular ‘71 themed set has been created. The entire film is being mostly shot outdoors,” says Khan. The film consists of wide screen shots as it is not being confined to a particular studio set. The National Award winning film-maker earned plaudits after making his debut documentary, Al Badar.
The premiere of the film was held on Wednesday at Star Cineplex of Bashundhara City in the capital. Cultural minister Asaduzzaman Noor, prominent author Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Dhaka University’s pro-vice chancellor Nasrin Ahmed, cultural personality Nasir Uddin Yousuf, Hasan Arif were also present at the premiere among other guests.
The Tollywood superstar, along with music director Kalikaprasad also joined the premiere.
