Synopsis:
Krishnasakha and Aparna arrived from Germany to India to do a documentary on the 'Bohurupees' (Itinerant Performers) for a TV channel. Unlike many other NRIs, both of them were well conversant with the Indian culture so they would easily communicate with the folk performers. But the time of the assignment was perhaps not favorable as one of the two villages of the area was disturbed due to political reasons.
However, while shooting their film, they came across many interesting local characters, of them the young Subol Mandol and Taher Mullick intrigued them more. Other then pet profession, those two boys occasionally participated in the primitive 'Krishna Jatra' (play of Lord Krishna) to earn a few buck.
Subol lost his father at a very early age and as a result, he had to struggle hard to run the family, which comprises of his widowed mother, spinster sister and brother who was a student. As such Bohurupees earn only Rs.400-500 per month, and that amount had been too meager to run a four-unit family.
During the time of the shoot, Aparna was surprised to know that Subol had been locked up in the local police station and she wanted to find out the reason for such arrest of a boy who looked quite innocent. But it was a Pandora's box.... Krishnasakha, her colleague tried to dissuade her for not involving into the local village politics that might damage their professional responsibility. But Aparna did not hid to his request. On enquiry, Aparna got to know that a local political party, to save some anti socials who were involved in carious unethical activities, employed boys like Subol who has to plead guilty and later released by the same party. For this service these boys were offered some money. But does Subol do this willingly? 'No' was the answer that Aparna got.
In one evening, Aparna was humiliated badly by the local anti socials. Police wanted to arrest the notorious local goon who had disappeared but the local political masters wanted to hide that man and asked Subol to surrender to the police station but on that occasion, Subol refused to do the job and flew to a distant relative's house where he got a new lease of life. That village appeared to him an abode of peace and progress. He also discovered love in his life. But he could not stay there long as he was haunted by the goons and was brought back to his village again.
Subol lost all hopes of life and was found dead, hanging from a tree.
